See the "Projects" page.BOTTOM LINE ON PRICE$185,000 if purchased as a fully-found turn-key blue water cruiser --- OR --- $164,500 if purchased as a sail-away coastal cruiser (Or anything in between depending on what blue-water equipment is to be included in the sale) OUTFITTING FOR BLUE-WATER CRUISINGOutfitting a boat for blue-water cruising can be a sobering experience as it's often more costly in both money and time than initially anticipated. When we bought her in 1988, Daydreamer was in sail-away condition but we still wound up adding a new mainsail, radar, GPS, feathering prop, inflatable dink and outboard motor before heading off to Alaska. The costs for these add-ons are lost in time but I'd guess it was somewhere between $10K and $15K ... they served us well for the five years we spent messing about in Prince William Sound. But that was only the start as we've made a number of modifications over the years to improve systems capabilities, improve reliability, and add redundancy. We've also added a lot of equipment to Daydreamer's blue-water inventory, equipment that could easily be removed to lower the purchase price. A clear example of the kind of thing I'm talking here about are storm sails. Live-aboards and coastal cruisers really don't need storm sails as they can find shelter before adverse weather hits. But cruisers do need storm sails because when you're making a passage that lasts longer than a few days, you pretty much have to take whatever weather Mother Nature decides to throw at you. (Now it's possible to shade the odds a bit by avoiding areas and seasons where severe weather is common. And some folks make do with a third reef, particularly if they've got a heavily-built main. Even so, I think carrying storm sails is only prudent.) Daydreamer has a storm staysail and storm trysail custom-built for her by Port Townsend Sails (aka Hasse & Co), a sail loft with a reputation for building very high quality sails with a lot of hand work involved. According to a recent quote from Port Townsend Sails, it would cost over $6500 to replace the set Daydreamer has onboard. We estimate that it would take over $50,000 to replace the equipment we've added to improve Daydreamer's blue-water cruising capacity, items like the storm sails example above. That’s just the initial purchase price, ignoring sales taxes, shipping, etc. And, significantly, it also leaves out the time and effort and cost to shop for and install all this stuff, which could easily take a year or more (and way longer if you’re already living aboard). After all, it’s been a 20+ year project for us! THE WHOLE ENCHILADAIf you are looking for boat that's ready to go anywhere there’s enough water to float her, the full fit-out we’re offering here is a good deal for both the buyer and seller (see the "For Sale" page for a full equipment list). The buyer is getting the added equipment at a substantial discount and, best of all, it’s already installed and working. THE COASTAL CRUISING SAIL-AWAYYou may not be looking for a boat that’ll cross oceans and, in this case, you may well not want to pay to have all the stuff associated with this capability either. If that's the case, this option's for you. And in addition to a lower price, you'll also gain some storage. Tabulated below is a list of equipment that we would remove from Daydreamer to get to the lower price option.
